A Public Service announcement is a non-commercial advertisement broadcast on radio or television, for the public interest. PSAs are intended to modify public attitudes by raising awareness about specific issues. The most common topics of PSAs are health and safety. A typical PSA is part of a public awareness campaign to inform or educate the public about an issue such as smoking or compulsive gambling.
Thinking ahead to your PSA:
The benefits are great, what do you see as challenges in your way. (be “thoughty”)
Are you assuming that your PSA will be aired?
What are the criteria for a PSA that will be broadcasted?

As I have been told people will listen to these videos, when/if they are produced, but I feel people like me are a challenge. I have never felt personally affected—and yes, seeing as affect refers to an emotional state, we should know the difference—by a PSA I’ve seen. I have never once said to myself, “Let’s stop being an idiot because of this informative video.” Never once in my life have I done it. Moving along, another challenge will be the storyboarding, or equivalent, process. Seeing them come into fruition will definitely be the most unstable part of the whole progression to video. Despite that, I do not believe there will be any major issues with this assignment.
Today, I am not assuming anything. Judging from the nature of the assignment, I will pretend it is guaranteed to air; however, I shall assume nothing. This train of thought does not appear in my mind to need further explanation as, it is what it is.
The actual criterion of the PSA grade is unknown to me, as far as rubrics go, but, I should think carrying out the message would be a sizable portion of the decision. Other than that, it would make since that effective use of visual elements and the actual film should be included in the consideration to be aired. Obviously, school appropriateness would be another major ingredient in an aired PSA. IN fact, the latter statement would probably tie for most important factor.
I have been my PSA, and I actually have a great idea. It's simple, yet extremely effective. I chose Teen Suicide, because it's a heavy topic and I think it's something that sort of gets swept under the rug. It will be great to bring some of these issues to light. The only challenge I can see coming is gathering up the emotion to do the role. I'm not necessarily a depressive person; I'm generally all smiles, and to play a person who is suicidal is not going to be easy. I guess that's when my skills from Theatre Arts will come into play.
I'm not sure if my PSA will get aired. Teen suicide is a VERY heavy topic and I can possibly veer off into something that may not be seen as being "school appropriate". Teen suicide is an extremely touchy subject, and I don't want to potentially offend a student or an administrator.
The criteria for the PSA is to inform my audience about Teen Suicide in a quick and effective way. It can't be over 1 minute, which may be a problem. I need to convey a lot in a very short time, so I need to hit the ground running.
I think I can make the best out of this PSA and hopefully it will be approved and it will air.
The only challenge I see for the PSA is making sure that it is short but you still get your point across.
No i am not assuming my PSA will be aired because it may not be exactly what everyone was looking for.
Challenges for my PSA would be to keep it school appropriate and please the adiminstration. As long as my PSA is appropriate, yes I am assuming it will be aired. The criteria for a PSA to be broadcasted would be short, informative, graphic, and appropriate.
for my PSA i chose to do street racing, and how it affects teens. i think a lot of people will learn from what i have to show with my PSA. i think a lot of young kids, especially guys, like the feeling of driving fast. they like the rush of going over the limit, no matter how dangerous it is. my PSA will have negative affects to what happens if you street race. i already have everything lined up, and am ready to start filming as soon as possible.
Challenges, hmm... in my way are the "red tape" issues, like how i can shoot a PSA on drug use at a school. that's a big one, i don't really think it would be a problem, but i have problems sometimes staying "politically correct" and "in the lines"
I do assume that my PSA will be aired, nor am i really concerned with airing it, i know my stuff, and i know that i can do something that will be aired.
word.
i have to be short, sweet, shocking, to the point, and i have to pull people in, in a short amount of time, to raise awareness.
The PSA I have chosen is Cyberbullying. At first, I didn’t really choose this topic, but now I’m looking forward to doing this. There are a lot of issues in our society dealing with cyberbullying, many instances where it ends in horrible events. The challenge I find is trying to think of an idea that will get the point across, but also catch the attention of people. Also, doing all of this in a manor that is considered “school appropriate”. I think the ultimate criteria of this is to get the point across. Show why cyberbullying hurts people and who all it ultimately affects.
Thinking ahead to your PSA:
The benefits are great, yes but the only challenge I could see is to produce an infromative PSA that is appealing to teenagers that will get their attention, while staying clear of anything that can be considered offensive or against school code.
I am assuming that our PSA will be aired b/c there isnt much that can be done to make our topic unable to be "Wingfield Approved"
The criteria is to be on topic, within 15-30 sec long, informative, and school appropriate
I did a psa on teen smoking. everyone is doing something different. I didn't make it to the sign up sheet first so I guess I might not have got the best psa to do.
the biggest "challenge" that i think I'll have is managing my time. Just doing it when i have the chance. Mainly try not to put it off till it's due.
Yes I assume that it will be brodcasted. Just for one of 2 reasons. One being that if i work on something, I would like to have it shown. And two being that Ms. L said that it was going to be shown.
I guess the criteria for this psa is just be serious and have at the most one minute worth of video.
