Talk to me about your first
on location filming experience.
No format, just give me your
impression/s. Be thoughty!
What was good, any
challenges? Anything unexpected?
Best part of the experience?
Thoughts for the upcoming Sept 25th event.
Here are my reflections:
- Fab day with much to
celebrate.
- Great communication between
crew members.
- Very proud of my student
directors.
- Very professional behavior,
to be commended.
- Equipment to be checked prior
to trip “one mo again”
ie:
missing headphones. Kudos to Ben who saved the day.
- Dress code to be discussed
further.
I
take full responsibility for elaboration of attire prior to our next event.
- What would we do without Mr.
Plyler. Yes, I am his PR guy!
Did you know he left before the second
session started?

I thought yesterday went very well! It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I didn't really have many problems. I just kept getting distracted by the cute children. There were only a few kids looking like at the camera. Most of them were just caring on conversations which each other. That shocked me, I thought they would be very distracted by the cameras. Sorry for my shorts, I didn't think they were that short. I just keep forgetting about my looooong legs. lol It wont happen again. I hope I didn't look unprofessional.
I feel like yesterday went smoothly and I'm very happy about how well we worked together to get the task done! While the set up of the classroom was difficult to film (especially the transition from the carpet to the desks in Mrs. Rhinehart's room), I felt like we did a good job of moving to get the best shots possible. However, the 1st and 3rd cameras were in each others way once we transitioned to the desks, and I had great difficulty trying to get a shot that didn't include that tripod or operator. However, I was able to work around that by zooming in to focus on the teacher-student interactions. I feel like the best part of the experience was getting to see how well we could do under pressure. I know we were all nervous going into that classroom, and it was a difficult task to set everything up without being a major distraction to the children. However, I feel that we all worked really hard together to get the best shots that we possibly could and I'm excited to see how this project will turn out in the end!
I thought yesterday went smoothly. There were no major distractions, problems, or faulty equipment. We got some great shots and had no trouble communicating. If we can do the 25th appointment just as well, then everything will go without a "hitch."
I think yesterday went really well. It was our first filming on location as a class, so I expected problems. However, I was plesantly surprised! Everyone worked togther really, really well. We all did our part and helped eachother out. We had no major problems and it was a great experience. I'm excited for the 25th, if it goes as well as yesterday we will have some great.
I feel like overall yesterday was good. However, there were plenty of challenges as well. First off, the kids moving around and blocking shot was a main issue for me. Also, my tripod wasn't moving smoothly when panning and what not. But otherwise I feel communication was good and the event went great. No major problems occurred so that gives way for success in my book. I am excited for the next trip though because Brookside was where I went to Elementary School. The best part however was definitely the Bojangles though haha.
I think it was great how the whole class worked as a team. We all did what we were supposed to in the classroom and helped eachother with checking on certain things, audio levels and camera angles for example. One of my challenges was making sure that the teacher didn't bump the mic on hershirt or accidentally switch off the mic, also having to change thelevels as she spoke to individual students and back to the whole class. Overall ithink it was a good experience and went well. I think the best part of the experience was just being able to go to Sherwood and do this and that mostly everything went smoothly.
It was very nerve racking, but over all I think it went well. It was as stressful as I worked myself up to think it would be.
I learned I'm terrible at reading hand gestures, and got very stressed/frustrated because I thought Cameron was trying to tell me something important but really he just wanted to explain I could turn the camera screen up and not hunch over to see it.
Also, I didn't like the location I got myself stuck in. I realized later I could have gotten a really a good shot behind the teacher when they were sitting on the carpet.. a little disappointing but oh well.. it was a learning experience...
Yesterday went very well! I had a lot of fun filming on set. The only bad part was the layout of the location and the transitions. My tripod did not turn smoothly, so some of my "pans" are jerky. The kids were PRECIOUS and they did extremely well with all of the equipment in their room. We all communicated well and that made the whole process so much smoother. I can't wait to go to Brookside!
Yesterday definitely went much more smoothly than I expected. Despite traffic delays and an equipment brain slip, there really were no major problems. The teacher moved around the classroom much more than expected, so the camera operators had to quickly adjust. I was proud of specifically Jenni, Kirsten, and Addison in the first session for assessing the situation and adjusting in an efficient manner. I'm sure the camera operators in the second session worked effectively as well. I feel like the recording of the speaker's audio went extremely well. Even though we didn't necessarily pick up all of the audio of the children, I believe our group is on its way to making this a satisfactory product for our "customer."
The filming went smooth. Ben and I worked together well and we didn't encounter any problems during the first session. One of my favorite parts was when the air system shut off because you could hear the subject better. I would have been a little lost without Mr. Plyler. He definitely knows what hes talking about.
@Kirsten
Thank you lovie, we both learned something that day.
@Jenni
I agree about the working under pressure and you all did beautifully! The camera in camera shot couldn’t be helped and it was good experience learning to work around this issue. We will have to be creative when editing!
@Matt (Bus thrower dude) Did anyone hear the plunger sound?
Be a little more thoughty. Yes, I agree it was smooth but what else? Any learning curve? Anything?
@Tori
Ditto what I said to Matt, minus the bus throwing comment. ;)
@Doug
I agree with your comment about the student’s movement and the tripod was an issue. As far as the Bojangles comment, glad you enjoyed it. There won’t be any stops during the next outing.
@Ben
Please help me to remember to remind our presenter about that hand over the mic for our next visit.
@Corie
We will work on sign language, lol. I can understand your frustration. It was tricky and your location was so cramped. All noted for next time!
@Addison
Tell me more
@Abigail
Well said and yes, kudos to those ladies and all involved. It is so important to remember to say “hanks” and “well done” when needed. Hanks for the reminder!
@Keelan
Knock it off! I am Plyler’s PR guy! Yes, wouldn’t we, he is lovely to work with and SO knowledgeable about many topics. More on this later. More thoughty from you would suit me.
i feel as a student director the shooting went smooth over all. we had some problems with audio, but Ben was awesome and he fixed them quickly and quietly without drawing attention. overall a very good sescion.
