The expectations, or at the very least ideas, I originally had about RamTV was a little different from how the first week turned out. A laying of the law was anticipated, but the news cast (warning) was an unexpected downer. All in all, Tuesday & Wednesday made for a pretty good first week.

Due to the fact I was (obviously) not in any other RamTV classes I don't know that from experience the differences. The jury may still be out on the positive or negative effects, but, for now, I can truly say no feelings are swirling about the changes. It is certainly a sad thing that in such a creativity geared pathway the current RamTV is going to be a news-oriented program. Nothing that can be done at this moment but find a balance and fight for the privilege of more than just the news show...for earned recognition as able to do more.

Many challenges lie ahead; unfortunately, the ones we can't foresee are going to be the most difficult. However, one quote by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe fits the outlook of the semester. "Mountains cannot be surmounted except by winding paths." As the cliche goes, the mountains are our obstacles. When you take a mountain and blaze your own path by looking forward, you create your own winding paths. There is nobody else there to make them, we must help lead each other along the cliffs and down the slope of the other side.

Or we can all save a little bit of time and just turn a mountain into a mole hill. It all depends on the easiest way for a particular ant to make the road to its goal.

Kendall, I enjoyed your reflection and I appreciate the positive outlook that you have on the semester and the changes to the course. I love the quote; you will note that it has been added to the blog (far left). =)

The path will be what we make it and I am SO looking forward to the challenge as well as the community that will be built as a result of our time together.

WOW! The first week is over already isn't it. I honestly expected us to just play around with cameras and goof off, but that wasn't the case at all. Who ever knew that the RamTV kids had rules, just kidding. In all honesty, I'm glad that we did get to learn about the class and that we did get boundaries and rules. I learned a lot about filming, especially on Friday. The techniques about holding the camera steady, movement, and of course balance were a good introductory to the course. The live shows are going to be a bit difficult. It actually took me by surprise when you confirmed it because I originally thought that it was a joke, but I have to make the best of it and psyche it up. This can possibly bring out the best in me, and maybe I can possibly break out of my shyness in front of the camera.

The challenges are most definitely going to be the live broadcast. I'm still a little unsure about it. Since we're going to be the first RamTV class to do a live broadcast every day, I really want to start off with a bang that will get the sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in RamTV, and to show what the freshman have been missing. The live broadcast will be a challenge because I will possibly be the one who will slip up or maybe say an expletive while live. I don't want to embarrass my class or my teacher, so I got to get it together with that. Another challenge may lie in us working as a team. My graphics classmates rock, but I don't want to unintentionally step on someone's toes or vice versa. I want us to still remain friends because I think this class will be a interesting social experiment and growing experience for all of us.

My Proactive plan for this semester is to try to break out of my shy demeanor and to be a little more spontaneous and crazy. I just have to psyche it up and make the best of it, because based solely on my first week in class, I think I'll enjoy RamTV a lot. My classmates are cool and we have a lot of fun together, the teacher is awesome, we just need to work as a team to make this RamTV amazing and (in my opinion) bring it back from the dead. We need to bring some comedy and entertainment, while informing the whole student body. On the bright side, I do think this class will be a very interesting class. I'm just ready to pick up a camera again.

My thoughts of the new RamTV are really just that it’s going to be an interesting semester. I came in thinking that maybe this will be an n easy course, that you could just jack around and do nothing. You can imagine that the first day came as sort of a shock to me. I do feel that this may be more than I bargained for, but I am more than willing to take this semester on.
The changes made aren’t really as bad as I thought they would be. At first, I just wasn’t really sure about them. I even thought it was really lame what they were doing, and being a bit pessimistic about it. Now, I’ve opened up to it more, and think that it will be better. It’s not like we will never be able to do a show, so I am satisfied with that. Also, the idea that we might be able to persuade Wingfield and such to let us have shows more frequently.
My plan this semester is obviously to get my act together. Senioritis kicked in second semester of my junior year. I honestly say that Jake Hartness may be to blame for that one. Regardless, I will do the best I can to do my part in producing this show. I’m going to try and find what exactly my skills are. I plan on building my self confidence through this course, and to grow with my peers as a family. Although with most of my classmates, I already feel this way.
All in all, I’m just looking forward to the semester ahead, and to the new RamTV.

Chavis, a key word in your reflection was the word: boundaries. This is so important in life and especially in RamTV. More on boundaries later.

Interesting?! To say the least!

Awall, Change is the only thing love, that is ever constant in life. ;) and it is good.

Slackers you say?! hmmmm...
Deadline ish....more on this later as well.

Parker, Did you really come into the class thinking it was cake?! Wow! Guess those guys last year made it look easy. Glad we are over that thought and now have our feet firmly planted. =)

Hanks for being positive about the changes...I like your attitude.

Jake?! Jake Hartness?! Couldn't have been MY Jake?! Bahahahaha!
No name calling Parker - especially when someone isn't here to defend themselves. XD

first week of school is always seen through rose colored lenses.

that being said... we got crap on our glasses. at first i thought it was very low to take our weekly show from us, but in hindsight, we get to do something completely new and original... which works for me anyways. i hate rehashing old ideas, so this is a chance for us to step up and not only give dedmond something "he can be proud of" but something for us to be proud of, our own product that can be maybe even showcased in a video portfolio. i am excited for the semester.

one completely BS free answer.

I originally thought, like many others that the first week in Ram TV would be fun, laid back joking around and maybe filming a couple of things for our weekly show I was expecting. I couldn't have been any more wrong, as I found out on the first day of class, we would no longer be having our weekly episodes due to lack of acceptable material in the past Ram TV shows. There was a new and original Ram TV none of us could have seen coming. We were now going to be doing LIVE daily news broadcasts every day. This came to a shock to most of us, and a disappointment at first to a lot of us, but after talking it over with Ms. LaFrancis we came to the conclusion that this was our chance to impress our administrators and make a positive impact on Ram TV. I now believe that we are all ready to give this our all and put forth A 100% effort into this semesters Ram TV. I'm sure there will be many challenges that lie ahead of us, but I am more than confident as a group we will over come them and be successful. In the famous words of Ms. L, I'm ready to psych it up!

to continue my answer...

the challenges that lie ahead for us are stacking up as we speak...
we are known to be cliquish, being that we are teenagers, and that can be hard for us to overcome. but i think we will. we won't end up like second semester last year, i don't think we'll be in factions and at each other's throats.

my "pro-active" plan
attack everything with as much enthusiasm as we can, but at the same time, we need to look at the details, we have all different kinds of people in this class, although it is small..
maybe we need a DISC profile.
that helped me at work.

I feel that we have a strong staff this semester in RamTV the first week was pretty much learning the ropes of what we are going to do which will continue throughout the year. I greatly consider this course as "trial & error" meaning we will make mistakes yet we will learn from them.

I like change, and ultimately I think the change has been made for the good of the image of our school. Our motto says that we are "a world class school" and prior showings of RamTV have not demonstrated that. All I ever got out of viewing RamTV was a bunch of kids goofing off on camera and a few guys trying to make it their own little show. But I feel if the rest of our school goes by the standard "nomenclature" of world class school, we should have world class broadcasts. Not saying that we can’t be unique and spice it up, but there should definitely be a level of seriousness when representing HST.

Honestly I know that none of us in this semester of RamTV are exactly alike but I believe that our differences will make this semester better and the diversity will allow students all over our school to relate to whatever we broadcast.
