Weekly Reflection - November 16th

Please justify your reasoning for thinking that the class WOULD/WOULD NOT benefit from individual assigned show "parts".

Remember, we discussed assigning show segments to individuals along with a deadline to ensure that the show was timely.

This is your shot to share your thoughts, please be realistic in your reasoning

to be honest, it doesnt really matter to me which way we do it. they both have pros and cons... the up side to no having assigned jobs is that everyone has everyone's back, but the bad side is that some people can slack off... the up side to having deadlines and assigned jobs is that you know who to go to for what and when... the bad side is that there isn't always someone to get you back when you're no done.

Please address this statement:

Most of the work falls on a few people.

I do think think the class would benefit from having assigned parts of the show that they are required to film. I do not believe it would benefit the class to have each individual edit there footage. This is because everyone has there own style of editing, and having only one or two editors for each show keeps the segments consistent and the shows unique. A book has only one authur and thats the way I look at editing.

I think hat if we assigned show jobs that it would not be the best idea because everyone may say "I already know my job" and they will slack off in that position until the two minutes we are live. Also, not many people like the same position every single day, but I do understand why it could possibly be a good idea but everyone may not. Assigning show segments to individuals along with a deadline is a great idea but once again people may not meet the expectations or the deadline or they may not get the concept of the show as well as the editors do because they are used to someone else editing.

After various experiences over the most recent period of time, this class would definitely benefit from being assigned specific duties per show. As the confusion of editing clearly showed, we obviously need to know who is doing what at all times. This, truly, should have been a factor in our show production routine, but, since it is not, shooed be instituted. For whatever reasons, a rare few are willing to step up at any given time, this sort of inactivity is ludicrous. It seems to be a necessity with this class that an authority outline everything for us.

When it was brought up in conversation the first time, we did assign things to individuals. This, clearly, did not last for a very long amount of time. However informal the original experiment was with this system, if we had adhered to it, efficiency could have been achieved.

Perhaps we would all rather sit around confused and whining, or, a very popular choice, suffering from self-inflicted and (apparently) permanent ennui.

________

"Most of the work falls on a few people"

In response to the above statement:

The workload is taken on by a few people due to either a control complex or a general unwillingness to allow themselves a failing grade. Take it as what you will, but when a good portion of the class sits around doing nothing, goofing off, texting 'stealthily,' or whining, somebody has to do it. To play a broken record with a ground down needle, just because 'we sail of into the sunset together or sink together' doesn't mean Atlas isn't carrying the crew on his back.

I don't think that the work falls on just a few people. I've seen others take on the jobs, of the people that supposedly "do all the work". I don't think no one really lays around and lets everyone do there jobs for them. I think we all do our jobs, and if not, someone else will. But no is laying around at all, not at least what I have seen.

I think that its kind of a fifty fifty thing. I think it would help because it kind of divies the jobs out. This makes it easier so that all you have to do is get the editors to edit and throw the pieces together. It also gives everyone something to do with the show instead of one person filming all the time. However, not everyone is all that great with a camera. So that would be the part that would not help.

Individual assigned show parts is such a great idea. I think my peers would get the work done because it's assigned to them. They would have no other choice but to do it. The negative of this is that when a person can't come through. This has happened before. I had to fill in for someone because they couldn't film something. I didn't want to do it, I had other stuff at home I had to do, and I was in a bad mood that day, but I got off my butt and I did it because of the show. I do think deadlines for parts of the show would be a helpful thing. We could have certain things due at a certain point, and I also feel the person who is in charge of a certain thing should edit it. That would make it SOOOO much easier for the editor who puts the final show together.

Certain times in this class, I do feel like the work falls on some students, and they have to make up for someone elses slack while the slacker gets off scott-free. It's not fair to the students who take this class seriously and want to get their work finished and create an amazing final product. We all neeed to take responsibility for our own stuff and if we don't, that individual person won't fail, we all do. We need to realize that we are a team, we fail together or we succeed together.

Chavis, is a bad grade still "scott-free"?

the class WOULD benefit from individual assigned show "parts" b/c some people can do certain things better than others, and everyone is held accountable for what they did or didn't do

the class WOULD NOT benefit from individual assigned show "parts" b/c if someone were out for a significant amount of time we'd run into a lot of stress

In spite of the negative aspect of this I think we should definitely assign parts of the show
