weekly Reflection - April 16th

What to date is the biggest challenge in RamTV?
Think broadly here, I'm not speaking of your personal challenge(s) but those of the class as a whole.

It's communication
Always been that, and I don't think its going to change anytime soon
We manage, and I'm happy with the way we get things done now
It may be slightly dysfunctional, and now how others would do things, but one way or another, we get things done and we always manage to pull through, and we give out better results than any other ramTV class to date.
If we're going to fix the communication thing, then I think we need to have another day to have a class meeting and discuss everything, and get everything out of the way.
Hypersensitive or not, some things need to be said.

Hypersentivity is not my primary concern although professionalism is a priority when effectively communication within the educational enviroment.

Nothing has changed in the class that I have noticed, its not a bad thing but its not good either. I have still not been doing some of the things I would like to do and just procrastination is a issue too. We will wait till the last minute to get something done and that is kinda of bad. But other than that everthing else seems to be okay for now.

Olivia - The biggest challenge is communication and the ability to actually get up and do something, we all mess around until a few weeks before the show, we have a whole month to do the show we should seriously have time to do it. If people didn't havent their cell phones in the studio while they are suppose to be working we would have plenty of time but everyone thinks its more important to text and talk about irrelevant stuff instead of film, we all have great ideas we just don't pursue them.

Communication is the biggest challenge in RamTV. This has been a big challenge since day one. I don't know how we can fix this but we need to find a way before our next show.

I think the issue is that we're not completly sure of what our job is to do, we don't know who can and will film events and we don't take enough time to get together and ask. We also assume too many things, like we assume someone is going to film when their not really going to film.

I think we need to have a check in sheet and write down the events that are coming up and then sign up for each event. When the event is completed (filmed, inported, edited) we need to have it checked off. Atthe end of each week we need to discuss upcoming events and events that we already have completed, that way we won't have to guess who did what and who has footage.

Great feedback Janel, see me tomorrow and let's work on assigning each component of Show 4 so that once the show line-up is planned, everyone will know their part.

COMMUNICATION. PROCRASTINATION.

Both of these 'facts of life' have improved since the start of this class, but it's still not up to par. For instance, the third show:

(not being snarky, not complaining. just being honest.)

I know (and everyone knows this too) that we've pulled this show together in the last two-ish weeks, but it CAN'T happen on the last show. We've done this for the last three shows, and and I speak on behalf of myself, Keith, and Magena when I say this: editing the show at the last minute is really not fun. We NEED to stop being apathetic about stuff. "Oh, I don't care what we do for this, do it however you want," is not going to cut it this time. We need to seriously buckle down and make this last show matter. Let's go out with a BANG.

We also need to know what's going on with our show. This time around I've heard a lot of "uh, I don't know, ask so-and-so about it," whenever someone is asked about something. Everyone needs to keep everyone updated on these kind of things, it's IMPORTANT if we want to crank out another awesome show. (and i also understand that some people honestly didn't know about something, because it probably wasn't their responsibility, and i respect that)

PROCRASTINATION is the other main thing. Note that once you import a show, it gets to the editor ASAP.

I'm not complaining about my being editor this show, or trying to put anyone on the spotlight, but it's really frustrating when you need something and can't get it or don't know where it is. Import the footage, and get it to the studio. 'Nuff said.

Also~

I'm not sure if there's any personal problems going on with anybody in our class, but whatever it is, it doesn't need to get to any of us. We have a lot on our plates, and I know we have lives outside of the studio. But whatever the problem is, leave it at the door. It will only cause tension and unnecessary drama where it's not needed. That's what counselors and Mrs. L are for.

Hopefully i've covered everything here. On to the next blog...

I just read Pat's blog and I'm impressed. That covers it! We're apapthetic. There's too much of the thought "I helped/pounced already, let's see what everyone else has to say" but they don't mean it with the spirit of letting others speak their mind, they mean it with an attitude of putting others in the spot. I definitely feel that I have never felt more tension in the class than the past few weeks. And I'll be straightforward about it, it's because people are mixing their feelings about the editor with the fact that they need to deal with the editor. I'm not his best friend but you haven't seen me trying to avoid him for all he's worth. Yes, I slacked when it came to importing this time around but not when it came to finding an answer to the editor's question (i.e. "where's the graphic showcase?"). I can't wait to see (or at least hear about) how some of these people in our class are going to function in the real world when they're in a position that they hate who they're working for but they have to work that person still... That should lead to some interesting stories.

Luis said "There's too much of the thought "I helped/pounced already, let's see what everyone else has to say"" And I agree with that. Apathetic is a good word as he mentioned. It seems like people will do 1 or 2 things, and then say oh, well it's the editor's job to get it done. Well yeah it is his job to get it done, but it's not his/her job to search for footage and other petty tasks. Editing takes a lot of time as it is already, which we hopefully should all know by now. That being said, I think people wait around to be told to do something. A lot of people don't take the initiative to go film something save a few people. And people assume that the editor is the one in charge of the entire show, and he kinda is. But you shouldn't need to wait for him to tell you to film something for him, and then get offended about it when you see our story board on the wall and see what needs to be done. Communication is still key.

The problem is the maturity level of the class. Everyone is either; intimidated, lazy, refuses to work with someone... just really stupid things. We are 18 or almost 18 years old about to go to college and we can't "communicate" or help someone out when they need it. It's just imature and quite honestly ridiculous the attitudes people have, myself included.

Communication(yay Janel), Procrastination, and Professionalism those are pretty much covered.
But another thing I just think we need to have some fun,, not just like goofying around and joking (loll we got that covered). But idk, i guess there is some tension in the class and it would only be natural. I mean we are a small class so you get to see people on a personal level, and you might find out things or characteristics about somebody that you dont really like or whatever. But just CHILL OUT let it go. I mean if you dont like the way someone acts brush it off, I mean thats just them you know. They aren't intentionally acting a certain way just to make YOU mad, they are just being themselves. I guess the word im looking for is TOLERANCE, i mean in your other classes you dont have to tolerate people if you dont want to because your just sitting in a desk chillin. But But RAMTv is different like a said because its more personal.
Most fights that people get into (not necessarily in our class, just in general) happen over petty stuff, and should just not even reach levels that they do. Just talk to L or BreeBree or something.

But I mean if someone is REALLY ACTIN UP then put them in time out. jk.... but seriously

i think its the differences we all have. everybody has there own opoinon abt stuff and the way the view life and there work ethic, etc....
i dont think cell phones have been a problem, if u think i do it 2 much, idc wat u think or say, our stuff still gets done, an if u think im not puttin a lot of input in, tell me wats up ill get involved, ive talked to L abt it and ive got MUCH MORE involved with this show, i think, and ive heard from people, im DEF not the best person editing or doing stuff on the Macs but i think i have good ideas, or atleast ive been told i do, thats wat i think i bring 2 the table 2 help us out as a class. were all lik a big family, they all have differences but in the end we all work 2gether 2 get the stuff done
